Safety - What the Auto Press Says

In government crash tests, the 2010 Lexus IS earns four out of five stars for protecting both the driver and front passenger in a frontal-impact. It earns five stars for protecting the driver in a side-impact crash, but only four for the rear passenger. The safest cars in this class earn five stars all around. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the IS top scores in all of its tests.

Four-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction control and electronic stability control are standard on all IS cars. Front-seat side and full-length side curtain airbags are also standard. One option is Lexus's Pre-Collision System (PCS), included with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. The system uses sensors to determine when collision is likely to offer, then pre-emptively retracts seatbelts, primes brakes and tightens the suspension to blunt impact as much as possible.
