Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The federal government has never crash tested the Lexus LS in hybrid or conventionally-powered form. That, however, is not unusual for cars at this price point. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not crash tested the Lexus hybrid but gives the conventionally-powered Lexus LS a "Good" rating for frontal offset tests. Side impact testing has not been conducted.
The Lexus 600h comes with four-wheel power-assisted ventilated antilock disc brakes with Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Traction Control, and Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (the Lexus version of electronic stability control). A backup camera is also standard.
The LS 600h comes with dual-stage front airbags, front seat-mounted airbags, side head-curtain airbags and knee air bags. Rear seat-mounted side airbags are available.
The LS has advanced optional safety tech features. A Pre-Collision System uses radar to detect a potential front impact, and responds by retracting the front seatbelt, priming the brakes to respond, and braking the car itself if the driver fails to do so.
