Exterior - What the Auto Press Says
While the 2008 Lexus LS' styling isn't revolutionary, it is appealing and attractive, and much improved from previous generations.
Car and Driver says that the LS is "incrementally more sculpted" and it features "an aerodynamically laid-back grille, headlights and windshield at the front, and the hint of a BMW trunk at the rear." The Detroit Free Press reports the styling is "more appealing" than the models it replaces but "derivative. The trunk and rear quarter panels look like BMW-lite while the front fenders' lines smack of Camry XL." But Edmunds' says the exterior design "seems so calculatedly derivative of other recent Lexus designs that its singular dynamic qualities seem subjugated by the family resemblance."
Lexus' L-Finesses design philosophy is apparent in the 2008 LS design, that About.com finds "sleek, modern and somewhat menacing." Forbes reports the LS "has a clean, conservative, yet absolutely contemporary shape, accentuated by a forward-thrusting arrowhead motif carried through from door handles to the front and rear lamp units and even the large, unusual twin exhaust-pipe diverters low in the rear bumper." Road and Track concludes the LS's exterior "represents a refreshing change from models of the past. More muscular-looking than its predecessor."
The 2008 Lexus LS 460 comes with HID headlamps with dynamic auto leveling, daytime running lights, fog lamps, LED tail lights and a rear window defroster. The LS 460 L increases in length and wheelbase but has the same exterior features.
