Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The 2008 Lexus LS performs admirably in Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash testing and comes with a hefty amount of standard and optional safety features.
Forbes indicates the LS has "a wealth of safety, comfort and convenience features." And CNET reports the LS "has an extensive array of braking technologies designed for safety and handling."
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the 2008 Lexus LS a "Good" rating for frontal offset tests, but did not conduct side impact testing. The federal government has not crashed tested the 2007 or the 2008 Lexus LS.
Accident Avoidance
The 2008 LS comes with four-wheel power-assisted disc brakes, with Brake Assist, Anti-lock Braking and Electronic Brake force Distribution. Both LS trims come with Electronic Traction Control and Electronic Stability Control.
Crash Protection
The LS has dual-stage front and side curtain driver air bags, front passenger air bags and rear passenger side curtain air bags. Rear-seat side air bags are optional.
Advanced Safety Systems
The LS has advanced optional safety tech features. A Pre-Collision System detects, with radars, a potential threatening front crash and activates Brake Assist and retracts the front seatbelt in response. A full-color back-up camera is also optional.
