2013 Lexus LS Review
Though test drivers say it’s not the most athletic car in the class, the redesigned 2013 Lexus LS offers a very good reliability rating, as well as a comfortable ride and a luxurious interior.
The LS comes with a standard V8 engine, and auto writers say it provides adequate power. An eight-speed automatic transmission is also standard, and while one reviewer praises it for its refined operation on the highway, he also notes that it doesn’t shift as quickly as he’d like at lower speeds. The EPA reports that the 2013 Lexus LS gets 16/24 mpg city/highway, which is about average for a V8-powered super luxury car. Still, V6-powered rivals like the Audi A8 and BMW 740i use less fuel. While rivals like the Porsche Panamera and Jaguar XJ earn praise for their athletic handling, critics say that the redesigned LS lacks the agile cornering ability you’ll find on more performance-oriented rivals. However, they also note that the LS 460 offers a quiet, comfortable ride, which isolates its driver and passengers from road imperfections. Slightly sharper handling is available in models equipped with the F-Sport package, which includes a sport-tuned suspension and Brembo brakes.
Most test drivers say that the Lexus LS has an attractive cabin that’s built with first-rate materials, which include leather upholstery, as well as wood and aluminum trim. They also appreciate its comfortable seats, and say that the 2013 LS has ample space in both rows. Long-wheelbase models have even more space in the back, and an available Executive-Class Seating package adds features like a refrigerator and a right-rear power reclining chair with an ottoman and shiatsu massage. One critic notes that the 2013 LS has a strong list of standard features, though others write that its Remote Touch infotainment system requires too much attention while driving. Other Cars to Consider
The diesel-powered Mercedes-Benz S350 Bluetec costs more than the LS 460, but it also comes with standard all-wheel drive and gets some of the best fuel economy ratings in the class. Additionally, test drivers say that the S-Class offers balanced handling and an ultra-luxurious interior.
The Audi A8 also uses less fuel than the LS, and test drivers say that the A8 features a high-quality cabin, as well as nimble handling and a comfortable ride. Like the S350, the A8 also comes standard with all-wheel drive.
