Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The 2009 Lexus LS received top scores in an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety frontal crash test, but the Institute has not released results of a side-impact test. The federal government has not tested the LS, and often does not perform crash tests on vehicles at this price point. The LS comes with an extensive list of standard and optional safety features.
The 2009 LS comes with four-wheel power-assisted disc brakes, with Brake Assist, Anti-lock Braking and Electronic Brake force Distribution. Both LS trims come with Electronic Traction Control and Electronic Stability Control.
The LS has dual-stage front and side curtain driver airbags, front passenger airbags, knee airbags to prevent the knees of the driver and front passenger from impacting the dashboard, and full-length head curtain air bags. Rear-seat side airbags are optional.
The LS has advanced optional safety tech features. A Pre-Collision System uses radar to detect a potential threatening front crash and activates Brake Assist and retracts the front seatbelt in response. A full-color back-up camera is also optional.
