Used Car: 2010 Lexus RX Hybrid Review

Review Last Updated: 8/10/12

The 2010 Lexus RX Hybrid is one of the best five-seat luxury crossovers you can buy, with excellent safety scores, an outstanding reliability rating and, of course, great fuel economy.

The 2010 Lexus RX Hybrid is an excellent luxury crossover, and reviewers said that if you’re in the market for a five-seat SUV, you should be sure this one is on your shopping list. Test drivers said the RX and its gas-only sibling have a smooth ride and car-like handling. Its reliability rating is at the top of its class, and its fuel economy is rated at 30/28 mpg city/highway in all-wheel drive models. That’s better than many sedans. The RX Hybrid’s interior is upscale and quiet, and according to reviewers, its seats are very comfortable. Standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control and push-button start, while optional features when it was new include leather seats, a Mark Levinson audio system and navigation.

Neither the RX Hybrid nor the RX is particularly sporty, and some test drivers found them to be less than fun to drive. When it was new, the hybrid RX 450h cost more than the gas-only RX 350, and used models typically cost more as well. In that case, the RX Hybrid might not be worth the extra money compared with the gas-only RX, which gets great fuel economy for a non-hybrid crossover.

Other Cars to Consider

If you like the Lexus RX Hybrid’s interior but don’t want to spend the extra money on its high-tech powertrain, consider its gas-only sibling, the 2010 Lexus RX 350. The RX 350 offers all the benefits of the RX Hybrid but may have a lower price tag. Its fuel economy won’t be as good as the RX Hybrid’s, but its gas mileage is still great for a midsize crossover.

Shoppers should also consider the 2010 Lincoln MKX. Though it’s not a hybrid, it still gets good gas mileage. Its reliability rating is almost as good as the RX Hybrid’s and it has high safety scores. Test drivers also noted that the MKX has a lot of standard features for its class.
