Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The 2010 Lincoln MKZ earned very competitive government crash test scores. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the car five out of five stars in every test, with one exception -- it earned four out of five for protecting rear-seat passengers in a side-impact crash.
The 2010 MKZ is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety “Top Safety Pick.” It earned the Institute’s top score, “Good,” in both frontal- and side-impact crash tests, and also scored a “Good” rating for its ability to prevent whiplash in a rear-impact crash.
The MKZ comes standard with six airbags, including full-length head-curtain airbags to protect occupants in side-impact crashes. Front-seat torso-protecting side airbags are standard, but rear-seat side airbags are not available. Buyers need to upgrade in order to get some of the most advanced safety equipment available on the MKZ, such as a blindspot warning system and rear backup camera, but the same is true of most competitors. Ford’s SYNC multimedia integration system can, like GM’s OnStar, call 911 in the event of an accident.
Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (to boost braking power in a panic-stop) are also standard.
