Used Car: 2011 Lincoln Navigator Review

Review Last Updated: 3/24/14

The 2011 Lincoln Navigator is a spacious vehicle that is well-suited to carrying a family or towing a boat. However, if you’re looking for a luxury large SUV that exudes luxury and delivers great performance, there are better choices on the market.

The 2011 Lincoln Navigator is ranked:

When it was new, reviewers liked the Navigator’s comfortable seats, large cargo area and plentiful standard features, but they didn’t find it especially inspiring. They said the Navigator lacked the prestige of competitors like the 2011 Cadillac Escalade. Still, if you’re simply looking for a large SUV with a fair share of luxury, the Navigator is a safe bet.

The 2011 Lincoln Navigator is powered by a 5.4-liter V8 that reviewers said is competent, but underwhelming. Two-wheel drive is standard, and with it, the Navigator gets 14/20 mpg city/highway, while available four-wheel drive drops that to 13/18 mpg. Maximum towing capacity is 9,000 pounds, which is among the best in the class. Buyers can choose from a regular wheelbase or long wheelbase Navigator L for additional cargo space behind the third row. The regular wheelbase Navigator can hold up to 103.3 cubic feet of cargo with the second and third rows folded, while the L can carry up to 128.2 cubic feet of cargo.

Inside, reviewers said that all of the leather-trimmed seats were comfortable and spacious, even in the third row. When equipped with a middle-row bench seat, the Navigator can seat up to eight. Standard equipment includes Ford’s SYNC infotainment system with Bluetooth, navigation, HD radio, parking sensors, a power liftgate, power-folding third-row seats and heated and cooled front seats. A rear-seat DVD entertainment system was optional. The current generation Navigator has been out since 2007, so you may be able to save some money by getting an older model. The Navigator shares its platform with the 2011 Ford Expedition, so you may also be able to save money by looking for a fully-loaded Expedition.

Other Cars to Consider

One of the Navigator’s main competitors is the 2011 Cadillac Escalade. When it was new, reviewers praised the Escalade’s combination of style and luxury, and said it is one of the better-handling SUVs in the class. Like the Navigator, the Escalade comes in regular- and long-wheelbase versions, depending on how much cargo space you need.

Another alternative to consider is the 2011 Lexus LX. Like the Navigator, the LX offers a roomy and comfortable interior, though it falls short of the Lincoln in terms of cargo space. On the other hand, reviewers said the LX is plenty powerful, and they generally liked its powertrain more than they liked the Navigator’s.
