MINI Cooper - Overview

What a '57 Chevy is to America, the MINI Cooper is to the UK. It's a little ironic, then, that the British icon is now produced by Germans. BMW-owned MINI introduced the Cooper in 2002. The little car is modeled after the British Motor Corporation's original 1960s-era favorite. Redesigned in 2007, the hatchback coupe has been through two generation cycles. It's also available as a convertible and Clubman.

Auto writers love the Cooper's retro design, money-saving fuel economy, and top-notch handling dynamics. What they don't like, however, is the limited space it allows for rear-seat passengers and cargo. Some test drivers also complain of complicated controls. Altogether, however, the Cooper remains a consumer favorite. If you're in the market for a high profile subcompact car, definitely check out the MINI Cooper.
