MINI Cooper Exterior Review
Exterior - 8.0 (Very Good)
MINI updated the 2007 Cooper's exterior to meet European safety regulations but made the changes as subtle as possible -- a decision that pleases most critics and MINI enthusiasts. Road and Track considers the 2007 hatchback "cuter than a bucket of puppies."
Edmunds refers to the MINI as "arguably the most recognizable vehicle in the world" and says the redesign is "the best yet." While the 2007 model's exterior changes are important, they are also very subtle to preserve the MINI's classic and unique styling. New Car Test Drive comments, "Without the old model to compare, most observers would have difficulty spotting the changes. The MINI still is most aptly described as looking like a cheery English bulldog." The Auto Channel describes the 2007 model as "firm, taut and striking, resting powerfully on its wheels in a look well-known to friends and aficionados of the brand as that typical 'stance on the wheels' " and also praises one of the MINI's characteristic features, "the seemingly uninterrupted 'flow' of windows around the car, adorning the new MINI like a complete, 360-degree band of glass."
Buyers wanting a sportier look can add the optional Sport Package, which comes with a rear spoiler, 16-inch wheels with performance or all-season tires, front fog lamps, and white or black bonnet stripes (if desired).
Exterior Trims
Convertible
The MINI Cooper is also available as a convertible. This changes the exterior styling by adding a 3-in-1 convertible roof that contains a built-in sunroof. It opens fully in 15 seconds and tucks away into a compact space in the rear of the car when not in use.
