Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The federal government gives the 2010 Mazda CX-7 top five-star scores for all seating positions in both frontal and side crash tests, as well as a four-star rollover score. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the CX-7 top scores of "Good" in frontal offset and side impact tests. Some test drivers have expressed concern, however, about impaired front visibility due to the sharp design of the CX-7's windshield. The insurance industry also gives the Grand Touring model's rear seats a score of "Marginal" (second worst on a four-point scale) in rear crash protection tests.

The CX-7 comes with everything expected in a safe family SUV. Standard features include advanced front airbags, front side-impact air bags and side-impact air curtains, an Anti-lock Brake System with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assist, Dynamic Stability Control and a Traction Control System. A Blind Spot Monitoring System and back-up camera are standard on the top-of-the-line Grand Touring trim. The camera is optional on the Sport and Touring, but neither it nor the Blind Spot Monitoring System are available on the base SV model.

  • "With its bold stance, dramatically raked windshield and 18-inch alloy wheels, CX-7 has the stylized look of a sports sedan grown big. But the thick pillars supporting that steep windshield are an annoying obstruction to driver vision." -- Arizona Republic
  • "Despite its curvy styling, visibility is quite good all around." -- Consumer Guide
