Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The federal government gives the 2010 Mazda CX-7 top five-star scores for all seating positions in both frontal and side crash tests, as well as a four-star rollover score. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2009 model top scores of "Good" in frontal offset and side impact tests. Some test drivers have expressed concern, however, about impaired front visibility due to the sharp design of the CX-7's windshield. The insurance industry also gives the Grand Touring model's rear seats a score of "Marginal" (second worst on a four-point scale) in rear crash protection tests.
The CX-7 comes with everything expected in a safe family SUV. Standard features include advanced front airbags, front side-impact air bags and side-impact air curtains, an Anti-lock Brake System with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assist, Dynamic Stability Control and a Traction Control System. A Blind Spot Monitoring System and back-up camera are standard on the top-of-the-line Grand Touring trim. The camera is optional on the Sport and Touring, but neither it nor the Blind Spot Monitoring System are available on the base SV model.
- "With its bold stance, dramatically raked windshield and 18-inch alloy wheels, CX-7 has the stylized look of a sports sedan grown big. But the thick pillars supporting that steep windshield are an annoying obstruction to driver vision." -- Arizona Republic
- "Despite its curvy styling, visibility is quite good all around." -- Consumer Guide
