2007 Mazda Mazda6 Wagon Review
This review was written when the 2007 Mazda Mazda6 Wagon was new.
The Mazda6 Sport Wagon delivers satisfying levels of power and sport handling, an attractive design, abundant cargo room and a long list of standard features. Even so, mixed reviews concerning backseat comfort detract from its overall appeal.
The 2007 Mazda6 Sport Wagon is praised for combining a unique eye-catching design with satisfying levels of power, handling and cargo room -- as well as an impressive list of safety and convenience features. Nevertheless, a rough suspension and a tight backseat detract from its overall appeal. Available in three trim levels -- s Sport VE, s Touring and s Grand Touring -- Kelley Blue Book reports that it "offers all the benefits of a car with the added utility of an enclosed cargo hold."
Combined with its V6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission, the Mazda6 Sport Wagon's sporty performance leads Cars.com to assert that it's "pleasant to drive." Kelley Blue Book adds, "It tracks down the highway with sure stability and goes around corners with smooth precision and easy response." Even so, many reviewers note that the Sport Wagon's sport-tuned suspension isn't refined enough to shield passengers from bumpy roads. Still, Edmunds claims, "Overall, the Mazda 6 Sport Wagon is a powerful and nimble car that can be driven aggressively while still offering the practicality and space of a large family car."
In regards to style, most reviewers agree that the Sport Wagon is both striking and attractive. Automotive.com asserts: "The Mazda6 benefits from a kind of muscular conservatism inside and out. Everything in, on and under this car makes sense, and it all looks good doing it."
The Sport Wagon's interior fit and finish is no different. "Mazda interiors are gaining a reputation for their nice detailing and quality materials, and that of the Mazda6 Sport Wagon is no exception," says Kelley Blue Book. Still, however, reviewers are unable to reach consensus on the vehicle's rear seat. While some claim that it's comfortable enough to seat three adults, others assert that the middle is so cramped that the Sport Wagon is better suited for four.
Perhaps most important for a family car is the fact that the 2007 Mazda6 Sport Wagon comes equipped with a long list of standard safety features and receives outstanding scores in both government and private crash tests. Moreover, reviewers seem generally pleased with its overall level of reliability.
While IntelliChoice gives the s Sport VE a rating of "Worse Than Average" for its predicted five-year total cost of ownership compared to other vehicles in its class, both the s Touring and s Grand Touring receive a rating of "Poor." Still, IntelliChoice awards the Mazda6 Sport Wagon the designation of "Best In Class Winner" for "Lowest Maintenance Costs." Altogether, Kelley Blue Book asserts, "The Mazda6 Sport Wagon offers premium quality, performance and looks at a price that won't bust your budget."
