Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 3 does not have the highest safety scores of its class, earning only moderate scores in both federal government and insurance industry crash tests.

Crash Tests

• The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives the 2009 Mazda3 four stars for the front impact tests, but did not conduct side-impact tests. The 3 also gets a four-star rollover rating.
• The Insurance Industry for Highway Safety gives the 2009 Mazda3 a "Good" rating for frontal offset tests, but the 2008 Mazda3 receives a "Poor" rating for side impact tests.

Safety Features

Just last year the Mazda3 began offering six standard air bags for all its trims. The 2009 Mazda 3 also has front and rear side-impact door beams and anti-lock brakes, but Dynamic Stability Control and Track Control are not available on every trim.
