2007 Mazda Mazda6 Wagon Interior
This interior review was written when the 2007 Mazda Mazda6 Wagon was new.
The five-seat Mazda6 Sport Wagon receives accolades for its comfortable front seats, long list of standard interior convenience features and ample cargo room. Reviewers, however, are unable to reach a consensus opinion on the rear seat's level of comfort. Nevertheless, Edmunds still asserts that "where the wagon really shines ... is on the inside."
Auto reviewers seem generally pleased with the Mazda6 Sport Wagon's interior design. "The dash is modern and straightforward, with a circle motif dominating. Big round gauges sit above the steering wheel, round air vents and rotary climate controls balance out the center stack. It's functional and attractive," says About.com. While the asserts that the interior "combines soft-touch materials with tastefully restrained chrome," AutoMedia.com says that the interior cabin "puts fashion and functionality on equal footing." Still, however, Consumer Guide complains of "flimsy-feel plastic panels."
In regards to its interior features, most reviewers agree with Automotive.com's assertion that "All Mazda6 models are well equipped."
According to Kelley Blue Book, "The Mazda6 Sport Wagon can provide a comfortable seating position for just about anyone, due to its tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, multiple seating adjustments and adjustable lumbar support." While About.com claims that the driver's seat offers "plenty of room" and is both "comfortable and supportive," NewCars.com asserts that "the average midsize wagon offers a bit more head room." In the front cabin, interior dimensions include 38.7 inches of headroom (38.0 inches with moonroof), 42.3 inches of legroom, 56.1 inches of shoulder room and 54.7 inches of hip room.
The Sport Wagon's back seat receives mixed reviews. While Edmunds asserts that "the second-row bench offers the same support and comfort as its front bucket counterparts, with plentiful legroom and enough girth to easily accommodate three average-size adults," About.com states that "three adults will fit, but not for long." Kelley Blue Book adds that "the rear seat may be too confining for taller passengers." In the rear, interior dimensions include 38.6 inches of headroom, 36.5 inches of legroom, 54.9 inches of shoulder room and 54.1 inches of hip room.
Among the many standard interior features equipped on the Mazda6 Sport Wagon are front bucket seats, eight-way power driver's seat with manual lumbar support, 60/40 split fold-down rear seat, cloth upholstery, leather-wrapped steering wheel, shift knob and parking brake and tilt and telescopic steering wheel, features that About.com claims "make finding the right performance driving position easy." Other notable interior features include black/white gauges with red nighttime illumination, power locks/windows, rear window defogger, front side window demister, 12V power outlets, steering wheel-mounted controls (including audio) and an AM/FM six-disc CD changer that's compatible with Sirius satellite radio and linked to a six-speaker sound system.
In addition to these standard features, the Sports Wagon s Touring is outfitted with leather upholstery, heated front seats and a moonroof.
The s Grand Touring adds numerous other convenience features to the mix -- including automatic climate control, an auto dimming inner mirror, Home Link System, electroluminescent gauges with red nighttime illumination and a 200-watt BOSE seven-speaker sound system with amplified subwoofer.
Optional for the s Grand Touring is a voice-activated navigation system with a retractable 7-inch display screen. "Unlike many navigation systems that integrate into the audio head unit, the Mazda6 navigation screen pops up from the instrument panel and is operated with an independent controller placed next to the transmission shift lever," says Kelley Blue Book. Consumer Guide adds, "Navigation system easy to use -- and separate from audio, climate systems."
According to The Auto Channel, "The reasons for buying a wagon instead of a sedan or hatchback are space and versatility, and the Mazda6 wagon has both." The Mazda6 Sport Wagon maintains 60.5 cubic feet of cargo space with its rear seats folded, which About.com boasts can be done in "a breeze." Kelley Blue Book adds, "Loading bulky items into the cargo area is very easy, thanks to the spring-loaded rear-seat releases and rear floor that folds flat." With its rear seat positioned upright, the Mazda6 Sport Wagon maintains 33.7 cubic feet.
In addition to a center dash panel storage compartment, center console/armrest with dual storage compartments and an illuminated glove box, additional cargo features include numerous cupholders, storage pockets and coat hooks. Altogether, Edmunds asserts that storage is "absolutely huge."
