Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The federal government gives the 2010 Tribute top scores of five stars for all seating positions in both frontal and side crash tests. However, it receives a three-star rollover score, meaning it has a 20 to 23 percent chance of rollover -- and this is in a class where most SUVs receive four stars.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the 2010 Tribute top scores of "Good" in front, side and rear crash protection tests. But in roof strength tests, the Tribute is lacking -- along with its Escape and Mariner platform-mates, it receives a score of "Marginal" (second-worst on a four-point scale). Several other competitors receive better scores of "Acceptable," including the Chevrolet Equinox and Toyota RAV4.
The Tribute comes with all the safety equipment expected in a family SUV. It provides Dynamic Stability Control, a Traction Control System, Roll Stability Control, advanced front airbags, side-impact airbags and side curtain airbags with rollover protection. No safety options are available.
- "The brightest news for the...Tribute is in the safety arena, where side-impact and curtain air bags, roll-sensing stability control, and a tire pressure monitoring system have become standard across the lineup." -- Car and Driver
