2011 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class Review

This review was written when the 2011 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class was new.

Reviewers say the 2011 Mercedes-Benz CL combines top-notch performance with sumptuous interior accommodations and posh exterior styling.

According to most auto writers, the 2011 Mercedes-Benz CL provides an excellent blend of luxury and high-tech performance.  The fact that it’s goergeous is icing on the cakes. "The 2011 Mercedes-Benz CL550 is stunning -- both to look at and to drive-- in a way not many cars are,” says Cars.com.

With new styling and engines for 2011, reviewers report that the CL has only gotten better.  An adaptable suspension system lets drivers control how sporty or comfortable they want the ride to be. Buyers can also choose between rear- of all-wheel drive on the CL550. And though reviewers complain that the backseat is cramped, they also love how upscale the interior design and materials are.

Other Sports Cars to Consider

If you're in the market for a super luxury sports coupe, be sure to also test drive the Jaguar XK. The XK has a lower starting price than the CL, and an exterior design that some reviewers prefer.

Another good option is the BMW 6-Series, which reviewers say effortless combines comfortable commuting with a touch of sport for weekend cruises.  The fact that it’s stylish and upscale doesn’t hurt either.

The 2011 Mercedes-Benz CL is available in two trims, the CL550, which has available all-wheel drive, and the rear-wheel drive CL600. For 2011, Mercedes substantially refreshed the exterior styling, and added a few new tech features.

  • "I was hit by a meteor - a hot, shapely, pricey piece delivered in the form of the 2011 Mercedes-Benz CL550 4Matic coupe. It was irresistible"--Washington Post
  • "The CL550 is plenty quick, though it's not at the top of the CL-Class heap in terms of power. Nor is it practical, economical or subtle; it's simply a gorgeous automobile for people who can afford to not care about such things -- or its $113,000-plus starting price."--Cars.com
  • "Any CL-Class is very pricey, but they're all brimming with power, technology, and luxury. For the well-heeled shopper with little use for a rear seat, these well-crafted coupes are a wonderful indulgence." -- Consumer Guide
