DEPENDING ON THE MODEL YEAR AND MODEL AFFECTED, THE RESULTS OF AN INCORRECT SCN CODING CAN AFFECT A NUMBER OF VEHICLE SAFETY AND EMISSION FUNCTIONS INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING TYPES OF FUNCTIONS: (1) THE FUEL GAUGE READINGS MAY BE INCORRECT; (2) A STUCK FUEL-LEVEL SENSOR MAY NOT BE DISPLAYED IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER; (3) THE OBD SYSTEM MAY CAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE INCORRECTLY; AND, (4) THE SPEEDOMETER MAY BE OUT OF TOLERANCE.

Warranty

Based on the U.S. News analysis of reliability information from a number of different sources, the Mercedes Benz E Class receives excellent marks for predicted reliability. Mercedes also offers warranty coverage on all of its cars, including a four-year/50,000-mile warranty.

Reviewers agree that owning and maintaining a Mercedes-Benz can be a costly affair. Edmunds says that although the 2007 Mercedes-Benz is "still desirable and known for a long service life, a well-kept E-Class from this generation will nonetheless be a costly vehicle to own when repairs are required."

The Business Journal of Phoenix finds Mercedes-Benz reliability in decline over the past few years, yet notes that executives have been working hard to correct this disadvantage in the marketplace. For those wanting additional peace of mind, an Extended Limited Warranty can be purchased anytime during the New Vehicle Warranty period.

Identifix, a respected company that collects long-term reliability data, reports that earlier models of the E-Class have had some reliability issues with the Mass Air Flow Sensor.
