Used Car: 2009 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class Review
The Mercedes-Benz GL is a 2009 large SUV that’s great for used car shoppers who want a roomy, high-quality interior. If you’re looking for something that can comfortably fit your entire family and their cargo, the GL is a strong choice.
The 2009 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is ranked:
When it was new, reviewers were impressed with the 2009 Mercedes-Benz GL’s smooth ride, luxurious interior and diverse lineup of available engines. However, the GL’s reliability score is slightly below-average for the class and it has higher expected maintenance and repair costs. The GL underwent few changes since its 2007 introduction, so you may save some money by shopping for an older model.
The diesel model, known as the GL320 BlueTEC, gets an estimated 17/23 mpg city/highway, which is very good for the class, and reviewers said it should be plenty powerful for most buyers. Two gas-powered V8 engines are also available. Reviewers loved their power, but with fuel economy estimates no higher than 13/18 mpg city/highway, the GL isn’t as thrifty with a V8. All-wheel drive is standard, but the GL is not as capable off-road as truck-based competitors like the 2009 Lexus LX. Maximum towing capacity is 7,500 pounds, which is a bit low for the class, while maximum cargo capacity is 83.3 cubic feet.
Inside, reviewers loved the GL’s high level of build quality, and found its seven seats to be very spacious and comfortable. Keep in mind that leatherette upholstery is standard, so if you’re looking for true luxury, be sure the model you’re testing is equipped with leather. Other standard features include heated front seats, a power-folding third row, Mercedes’ COMAND infotainment system and Bluetooth. Option packages add features like tri-zone climate control, a rear-seat entertainment system, parking sensors, a backup camera, navigation and a Harman Kardon stereo.

Other Cars to Consider
If you like the GL, you may also like the 2009 Lexus LX. The LX is a critic favorite for its solid construction and luxurious interior. The Lexus is far more capable off-road, making it a good choice for those who regularly venture off the beaten path. The LX is further distinguished by its excellent reliability rating, though it tends to be pricier than the GL.
Another model you may like is the 2009 Cadillac Escalade. The Escalade’s bold styling is matched by its luxurious, well-appointed interior. The Escalade can hold more cargo than the GL, but keep in mind that its third row must be removed to make the most of that space, which makes maximizing cargo space difficult.
