Used Car: 2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class Review
The 2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK, which was an all-new vehicle for 2010, tops other 2010 luxury compact SUVs with its combination of pleasing performance, class-leading safety and reliability scores and interior amenities.

When it was new, critics enjoyed the GLK’s bold styling and smooth suspension, although some noted that the steering felt a bit too light. Still, most generally liked it and largely gave its shortcomings, like poor fuel economy and mediocre interior space, a pass because of how well it drove.
The GLK is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 268 horsepower. Critics were pleased with the ample power, but less so with the engine’s thirst for fuel. With rear-wheel drive, the GLK achieves 16/22 mpg city/highway, while variants with all-wheel drive get 16/21 mpg. Both figures are fairly low for the class. Although the GLK’s maximum cargo capacity of 54.7 cubic feet is on the low end for the class, its reliability and safety scores are among the highest.
Critics’ opinions of the GLK’s cabin varied widely, with some complaining that material quality wasn’t up to Mercedes’ standards, while others said it was high-quality and handsome. Most arrived at a consensus that the front seats were comfortable and the back seats a bit cramped, though that complaint is fairly common for the class. The GLK is fairly well-equipped, with leatherette upholstery, dual-zone climate control and Bluetooth standard. Option packages add features such as leather upholstery, navigation, Mercedes’ COMAND infotainment system, an upgraded stereo, rear-seat entertainment system, backup camera, power liftgate and panoramic sunroof.
Other Cars to Consider
If you like the GLK, the 2010 Audi Q5 is also worth a look. Critics liked the Q5’s refined interior, smooth ride and good performance. Its fuel economy and maximum cargo capacity are also slightly better than those of the GLK, making it a bit more practical.
Another alternative to the GLK worth looking at is the 2010 Volvo XC60. Also new to the market for 2010, the XC60 combines good power with one of the most spacious cargo areas in the class. The front-wheel drive variant gets good fuel economy, but adding all-wheel drive brings fuel economy down to the GLK’s level, and with AWD, you’re better off with the turbocharged variant that has more power with a minimal loss in fuel economy.
