Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLK has not been crash tested by the federal government or insurance industry. However, it comes standard with plenty of advanced safety features.

Accident Avoidance

The SLK's accident avoidance features include anti-lock brakes with Brake Assist. In addition, a standard Electronic Stability Program (ESP) brakes the front or rear wheels and can also reduce excess engine power to help correct understeer or oversteer. It incorporates all-speed traction control, which senses wheel slip under acceleration and individually brakes the wheels to regain control.

As for visibility, Cars.com says "top-up visibility isn't bad. When parking, however, the driver may have no clue where the pointy front end is located."

Crash Protection

The SLK comes standard with an Integrated Restraint System that includes driver and passenger front air bags, knee bags, side-impact air bags, and three-point seat belts with an Emergency Tensioning Device (ETD) and belt force limiters. An Occupant Classification System (OCS) turns off or adjusts the passenger's air bag inflation rate based on the occupant's weight.
