Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The federal government gives the 2010 Mercury Mariner Hybrid top scores of five stars for all seating positions in both frontal and side crash tests. The insurance industry gives it top scores of "Good" in frontal, side impact and rear crash protection tests. However, it gets a score of "Poor" (the worst possible) in roof strength tests.

For 2010, Mercury has added five new safety-related features: an integrated blind spot mirror for better blind spot visibility, a MyKey programmable vehicle key, a rearview camera system, Active Park Assist for parallel parking help, and an updated SYNC system with traffic information.

  • "An electronic stability system with Roll Stability Control is standard. Roll Stability Control is designed to help prevent rollover accidents." -- Cars.com
  • "Also for 2009, a new safety feature, called AdvanceTrac with RSC, joins the Mariner Hybrid's list of standard features. The system, which provides stability control as well as roll stability control (RSC), automatically applies the brakes and makes adjustments to the engine when it detects wheel slippage to help the driver maintain control of the vehicle. It also helps the driver keep control of the vehicle in rainy or icy conditions, or when traveling on gravel roads." -- Car Gurus
