Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The federal government gives the 2010 Mountaineer top five-star scores for all seating positions in both frontal and side crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the 2010 model a top score of "Good" in frontal offset tests. However, it gives the Mountaineer a score of only "Acceptable" in side impact tests and rear crash protection tests -- which doesn't measure up to most midsize SUVs. A unique safety option is a heated windshield.

  • "Safety features for all 2009 Mountaineer trims include four-wheel disc ABS, safety canopy airbag system, 3-point seatbelts with Beltminder, driver front and side impact airbags, the Intelligent Safety System with adaptive airbag inflators, load-limiting seatbelt retractors, driver's seat-track positioning sensor, among other features, electronic brake-force distribution, AdvanceTrac traction control with Roll Stability Control (RSC), brake/shift interlock and SOS post-crash alert system." -- Car Gurus
