Exterior - What the Auto Press Says

Critics report that the Sable looks bland and inoffensive.  It's one of the largest cars in the large car category, and it looks the part -- but other than size, its look has little to say.  The Sable looks perhaps a touch more elegant than its 2009 Ford Taurus cousin, with the satiny-siler Mercury waterfall grille its most prominent feature.  But it is essentially an anonymous car.

  • "Ah, how times have changed -- the 2009 Mercury Sable isn't even a 'real' Sable, but rather a renamed Mercury Montego, a twin of the old Ford Five Hundred that officially met its maker a couple years ago. And unlike those avant-garde Sables of yore, the current Sable plays it safe with middle-of-the-road styling." -- Edmunds
  • "Front to back, there's a bit more bling on the Sable than there was on [its predecessor] the Montego, but it's far from overdone"-- New Car Test Drive
