Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2010 Galant earned five out of five stars in nearly every federal government crash test, with one exception: it earned four or five stars for protecting the driver in a frontal-impact crash. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) hasn’t published crash test results for the 2010 Galant, but gave the 2009 edition its top score, “Good,” in both frontal- and side-impact tests. The IIHS, however, gave the Galant its worst possible score, “Poor,” for its ability to protect the driver’s neck in a rear-impact crash.

The Galant offers six standard airbags -- frontal airbags for both the driver and front passenger, torso-protecting side-impact airbags for front seat passengers, and full-length head-curtain airbags to protect the heads of all occupants in a side-impact crash. Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (which helps boost braking power during panic stops) are standard as well.

New for 2010, every Galant will come with a stability control system as standard equipment. Last year, stability control was available only on the upscale Ralliart trim, which is no longer offered.
