2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Performance

Although the 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer couldn't exactly be called a high-performing vehicle, it definitely gets the job done and handles well, especially in the Ralliart Sportback trim. One big complaint among reviewers is noticeable engine noise. If performance is important to you but you like the Lancer's styling, you might want to check out the Lancer's big brother, the more powerful Lancer Evolution. Another good choice for performance-oriented drivers who want to get some bang for their buck is the Mazda3, which is a class leader in performance.

Acceleration and Power

The DE and ES Lancers are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine putting out 152 horsepower, and the GTS features a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that makes 168 horsepower. The Ralliart Sportback model is offered with a slightly more souped-up choice of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that fires out 237 horsepower, a significant leap from its counterparts. Despite the obvious power differences between the engines, reviewers say the most significant difference in performance on is between transmissions. Test drivers prefer the light shifting of the standard manual transmission to the not-so-seamless continuously variable transmission.

According to the EPA, the 2010 Lancer achieves between 17 and 23 miles per gallon in the city and between 25 and 31 miles per gallon on the highway, depending on the powertrain combination. Its ratings are on the low end of the class.

Reviewers agree that the 2010 Lancer handles well, especially in the Ralliart Sportback trim. Some say that the Lancer doesn't handle as well as the Lancer Evolution, but again, this car is intended as a daily driver and not as an auto-cross contender.
