Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The federal government gives the 2010 Outlander top scores of five stars for driver and passenger safety in frontal crash tests. Side crash tests have not yet been conducted. Both 2WD and AWD models receive four-star rollover scores, meaning they have only a low chance (16 percent and 19 percent, respectively) of rollover in a single vehicle crash. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the 2010 Outlander top scores of "Good" in frontal offset and side impact crash tests. However, in roof strength tests, the Outlander earned a score of just "Acceptable."

The Outlander comes with advanced dual-stage front airbags, side-impact head protection curtain airbags, front seat side thorax airbags, Traction Control Logic and anti-lock brakes. The only safety option is a rearview camera, which comes as part of the $1,950 Premium Navigation Package on XLS models only.

  • "I liked the amount of standard safety items, like ABS w/EBD, Active Stability Control, the usual full array of airbags, remote keyless entry, tire pressure monitoring system, etc. With the advent of winter weather and a never-ending supply of nutso drivers, the more safety the better." -- Chicago Sun-Times
