Nissan Frontier Interior
Stepping inside the four- or five-seat 2007 Nissan Frontier, many describe the cabin as stylish and comfortable, but in need of an upgrade for quality. Edmunds reports, "Only NBA-size giants would call the new, larger interior cramped...fit and finish is stellar...our only complaint with the Nissan Frontier is that every interior panel is made of rock-hard plastic."
The King Cab Frontiers can seat four with two rear jump seats. Frontier Crew Cabs are described as "more sedan-like than truck-like," as Truck Xcessory explains, and have available seating for five. Overall, seating is generally regarded as supportive. Edmunds loves the "deeply padded and softly upholstered bucket seats," and Four Wheeler describes "seats right up there with the Tacoma as the most supportive and comfortable chairs in the segment." Consumer Guide agrees, but also notes that the seats "need more side bolstering to hold front passengers in place through turns."
Little to no mention is made of the driver or front passenger's comfort; reviewers instead seem distracted by the space (or lack thereof) in the Frontier's second row. The Frontier's Crew Cab has a rear bench seat while the King Cab uses flip-up jump seats in the back. If you intend to use your rear seats for people, a large number of reviewers say the King Cab doesn't cut the mustard. Car and Driver calls the King Cab's back rest "nearly vertical" before describing "a low, short bottom cushion that supports maybe a postage-stamp portion of your lower cheeks. It's no place to spend quality time." The agrees, noting, "Anyone attempting to ride in the miniscule jump seats in the back had better be really small or really tolerant. Or both."
USA TODAY says that for many, "If you need passenger space, the Crew Cab is the only acceptable version," but others still complain that there's not much room. Automobile Magazine praises that there's "nothing small" about the Crew Cab's interior, but also notes that "rear-seat riders might wish for a less upright backseat." Consumer Guide states, "Crew Cab has more space, but leg room still kid-size with front seats even partially back, and head room is tight for six-footers -- especially beneath sunroof housing."
A vocal majority think the 2007 Frontier has nailed functionality with its interior. MSN finds "easily read gauges, nicely shaped climate controls and high-mounted audio system controls." elaborates by saying that "gauges are clearly readable day or night, most controls are intuitive in their operation, and all are logically located where an experienced driver expects them to be."
However, some of the controls' functional appeal is lost once reviewers actually touch them. Consumer Guide complains that the handy gauges "feel light and plasticky," whereas USA TODAY says "knobs turn with precision, if not quite with Tacoma's refinement."
Power door locks, keyless entry, cruise control and a multi-functional trip computer are standard features for the Frontier's NISMO and LE models. All but the base trim receive a tilt steering column and air conditioning standard.
PickupTruck.com is one of a small group to note the Frontier's audio system. Its reviewer finds the standard system is "acceptable," but especially likes the Frontier Crew Cab's Rockford Fosgate audio system, with eight speakers and an optional two subwoofers. King Cab Frontiers have a standard audio system with four speakers, while Crew Cab's standard audio has six speakers. NISMO and LE Frontiers can also receive steering wheel-mounted audio controls and MP3 and satellite radio capability.
Auto writers give the impression that you'll be hard-pressed to fit anything in the 2007 Nissan Frontier's cabin with the rear seats up, but space is described as more than sufficient once rear seats are folded flat against the back of the cabin. Edmunds calls storage space "plentiful" with the rear seats out of the way, and Consumer Guide writes that "both cab types provide useful space behind front seats."
The Frontier also provides innovative stowage areas. U.S. News reviewer Rick Newman verbalizes the consensus best, writing, "A menu of accessories lets the finicky trucker compartmentalize his bed with more storage bins and trays than one of those closet displays at the Container Store. Now that's practicality." Edmunds also appreciates that "cupholders and other little nooks and crannies abound, and the glovebox is split into two separate sections."
Writers are generally pleased to find all Frontier trims have a fold-flat front passenger seat and a large storage tray underneath the rear seats. However, Consumer Guide notices the tray is shallow and "needs a rubber mat to keep objects from sliding around." All Nissan Frontiers also have six cupholders, front and rear door storage pockets and second-row under-seat storage. The NISMO, LE and the Crew Cab's SE trims have overhead sunglass holders.
