Exterior - What the Auto Press Says

Opinions vary on the GT-R's exterior design. While some critics find it beautiful, others say it's bold and aggressive. Still, others don't find it pretty at all. Most, however, are impressed by the functionality of its design.

  • "The car's edges are sharp, inside and out. Nissan describes the front fenders cutting up from the hood as ‘aero-blades' and the curved C-pillar as the ‘sward edge.' Perhaps Nissan has overplayed its samurai card, but it's still beautiful." -- Detroit News
  • "Outside, the GT-R's styling is proudly Japanese, which is to say -- really, not that pretty. It is neither fluid nor organic, and proud of it. It looks like a car designed by a computer, for owners who grew up on a computer." -- Orlando Sentinel
  • "About as pretty as a meat mallet, the GT-R sure does look menacing in person. Its most distinctive features are the dramatic 'aero-blade' air extractors aft of the front wheel wells and the fierce glowering headlamps drawn back in a scowl like a Kabuki mask (or Cindy McCain)." -- Los Angeles Times
  • "A signature kinked C-pillar treatment, semi-fastback roofline, functional front fender vents that open onto deeply contoured door panels and prominent wheel arches that house unique, staggered-width 20-inch alloy rims mounting 225/40 Y-rated tires up front and 285/35 rubber in the rear make the new GT-R a study in fast-lane functionality." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Unlikely to be mistaken for any other car, the audacious-looking GT-R is shaped to cheat the wind, to route cooling air where it's needed and to maintain aerodynamic downforce, front and rear. It's constructed of steel, aluminum and carbon fiber to keep weight down -- and to distribute it as evenly as possible over the front and rear wheels." -- Cars.com
  • "Aesthetically, the Nissan GT-R is neither a modernized E-Type nor a resurrection of the earliest Z cars, way back when they wore the Datsun badge. This car has none of the natural beauty of those cars, which looked like they'd gone directly to the showroom from whimsical sketches on a dinner napkin. What it does have is a sense of polished purpose, of function dictated by the need to slip through the air with minimal disturbance blended with a form shaped to let the eye flow over its lines and curves just as easily." -- New Car Test Drive
