  • Summary: NISSAN IS RECALLING 362,891 MY 2003-2007 MURANO VEHICLES. THE INTAKE AIR DUCTS, WHICH ARE CONNECTED TO THE INTERMEDIATE RESONATOR IN THE AIR INTAKE SYSTEM OF THE ENGINE, MAY SEPARATE FROM THE RESONATOR WITH ENGINE MOVEMENT. THIS SEPARATION OCCURS DUE TO THE PREMATURE AGING OF THE MATERIAL USED IN THE INTAKE AIR DUCTS WHICH CAUSES EXCESSIVE SHRINKING.

  • Summary: NISSAN IS RECALLING 204,361 MY 2007-2008 ALTIMA, ALTIMA COUPE, 350Z, MURANO, ROGUE; AND INFINITI G35 SEDAN, G37 COUPE AND EX35 PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH CONTINENTAL AUTOMOTIVE SYSTEMS' OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM (OCS) CONTROL UNITS. A VARISTOR IN THE OCS CONTROL UNIT LOCATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT CUSHION MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED OUT OF SPECIFICATION. UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, THIS COULD CAUSE AN INTERRUPTION OF SIGNAL BETWEEN THE OCS AND THE AIR BAG CONTROL UNIT (ACU).
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL TEST THE SIGNAL BETWEEN THE OCS AND ACU SYSTEMS USING A SPECIAL TOOL TO CHECK THAT IT IS FUNCTIONING AS DESIGNED. Warranty

Nissan backs up the 2007 Murano with a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty. In addition, the Murano comes with a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty and a five-year/unlimited-mileage corrosion warranty.

However, the Murano's reliability has been called into question because of recent defects. The Associated Press reports that Nissan recalled all optional intelligent keys for the 2006 model because the cars sometimes didn't start properly. "Occasionally, the engines start even when the ignition is turned off and the driver moves the steering wheel," the AP reports.

In addition, according to the Detroit Free Press, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation in 2005 into whether the fuel tank in the 2004-2005 Murano is susceptible to punctures from road debris during normal driving. The newspaper reports that NHTSA said it received four complaints of fuel tanks being punctured, leading to fuel leakage and the need for a replacement tank.
