Exterior - What the Auto Press Says
Reviewers have mixed opinions on the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder's look, which is very similar to the 2007 model. Motor Week says it's "tougher, bigger, stronger and more powerful than ever before. Bearing a strong resemblance to its big brother Armada, the new Pathfinder boasts sharp lines, bulging fenders, short overhangs, and 16-inch wheels, for a modern, aggressive look."
The 2008 Pathfinder features exterior styling from the 2005 redesign. For 2008, minor changes include updated front and rear styling and new wheel designs. MSN calls the styling "ruggedly handsome," while the Washington Post says it "does not seem out of place in the parking lot of a church or elementary school."
With a wheelbase of 112.2 inches and a length of 192.3, the new Pathfinder is bigger that its pre-2005 predecessor -- "nearly 5 inches longer, 3 inches wider and 5 inches taller," according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "In a supermarket parking lot, you can easily spot its roof rack, standing above everything else. It feels, at least superficially, like a different car." Kelley Blue Book says "The new vehicle carries these added dimensions effortlessly and with more poise than its predecessor, which we felt sometimes came across as being little awkward."
But some aren't as excited about the styling, with Car.com noting "Pleasant, though, is not the word to use to describe the exterior styling of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. Moderately edgy is closer to the truth, compassionately conservative and aggressive in a Grande Latte sort of way." Edmunds doesn't quite like the resemblance to Nissan's larger Armada truck, noting "After a year of passing Nissan's big daddy Armada on the streets, I'm still not overly fond of its exterior design. To me it looks like two vehicles cobbled together. And seeing the new Pathfinder's similar look didn't exactly make me want to sing and dance."
