Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The federal government gives the 2010 Pathfinder four stars for driver and passenger safety in frontal crash tests -- a good score, but it still falls below most SUVs, which often earn five stars. It also receives only a three-star rollover score, meaning it has a 23 percent chance of rollover -- which isn't ideal, especially if you plan to use it as a family vehicle. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the Pathfinder its top score of "Good" in frontal offset and side impact tests. However, the Pathfinder receives a score of "Marginal" (second to worst on a four-point scale) for passenger protection in rear crash tests

On the plus side, the Pathfinder comes with roof-mounted curtain supplemental air bags for side-impact and rollover head protection for all three rows of outboard occupants. In addition, it provides an Advanced Air Bag System with dual-stage supplemental front air bags, driver and front-passenger seat-mounted side-impact supplemental air bags and Vehicle Dynamic Control. A RearView Monitor is standard on LE models and optional as part of the $3,050 Premium Journey Package on SE models.
