Exterior - What the Auto Press Says
The curvy styling of the 2008 Nissan Rogue gets mixed reviews, leading to an acceptable score near the bottom of the class. While Automobile.com describes the exterior as "athletic and stylish," others aren't as impressed with what Cars.com calls the "hackneyed design."
The Rogue looks a lot like Nissan's Murano, which also favors curved lines over the traditional boxiness of an SUV. Automobile Magazine sees the resemblance, but says,"to our eyes the Murano is the handsome first-born and the Rogue is the somewhat dorky younger sibling." However, About.com argues, "If you like the modern looks of the Murano, you'll like the Rogue."
Regardless of its borrowed looks, some feel the Rogue really stands out. BusinessWeek says it "translates to good looking" and Popular Mechanics comments, "The look is hip -- unlike some in the class that tend to look a little bloated."
Though MSN praises the Rogue for its uniqueness, it also complains about the styling of the grille: "Only the Rogue's grille (which is the same color as the car's body) detracts from its appearance. Nissan saved money here, and it shows." MSN adds "the CR-V looks expensive by comparison." The Contra Costa Times, however, takes a completely different stance, saying the Rogue "looked a lot more expensive than its price tag."
