Safety - What the Auto Press Says
In government crash testing, the 2010 Nissan Versa receives four out of five stars for both driver and passenger protection in a front-end collision as well as for front and rear passenger protection in a side impact collision. The Versa receives a four star-star rollover rating, which means it has a 14 percent chance of rollover in a single vehicle crash. The insurance industry has named the 2010 Versa a "Top Safety Pick," which means it receives top scores of "Good" in frontal offset, side impact and rear crash protection tests.
Standard safety features on all models include six airbags. On higher level trims, vehicle dynamic control and a traction control system are available either as standard or optional features. Reviewers appreciate that these have been added to the Versa's safety offerings, but wish they were standard on all models. For more standard safety options, consider the Toyota Yaris. It costs $2,000 more than the base Versa, but comes standard with safety features like anti-lock brakes with brake assist and electronic brake force distribution as well as traction control.
- "The large windshield and side windows - particularly on the hatchback - increase visibility." -- Cars.com
- "ABS remains optional on the Versa 1.6 Base Sedan and 1.6 Sedan. Nissan prices it at a reasonable $250, but by making it optional, Nissan still tempts budget-squeezed buyers to forego this important safety feature." -- Iguida
