Reliability

The 2010 Nissan Xterra reliability score of 7.0 out of 10 is the Predicted Reliability rating provided by J.D. Power and Associates. This score is based on trending the past three years of historical initial quality and dependability data from J.D. Power's automotive studies, specifically the Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) and the Initial Quality Study (IQS).

Nissan offers a standard three-year/36,000-mile warranty and five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

If you're thinking about an older model, note that Nissan recalled Xterras from model years 2005 through 2009 due to defects with crash zone sensors that could prevent front airbags from deploying in an accident. According to a defect notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall specifically affects vehicles sold or registered in 20 Northern states and the District of Columbia, all of which "use heavy concentrations of road salt in the winter. A mixture of snow/water and salt can enter into the front crash zone sensor (CZS) housing. If this occurs, the CZS may internally rust, resulting in a signal interruption."
