Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2009 Pontiac G6 receives five out of five stars for protecting its driver in a front-impact crash test performed by the federal government. It receives only four, however, for protecting the passenger. Both front and rear passengers get five-star protection in side-impacts.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the G6 a score of  "good" for frontal impacts, but just "acceptable" in side impacts.

All 2009 Pontiac G6s get four-wheel antilock disc brakes and traction control. Stability control, however, is standard only on the GXP model. On all other trims, it's an extra-cost option - which puts the G6 behind many competitors who include stability control on all their cars. Six airbags are standard.
