Critics, in general, agree that the 911's body style is not only an iconic work of art, but a functional masterpiece as well. Edmunds says that its structure "seems as if it were forged as a single dense molecule," and New Car Test Drive reports that its classic design "has landed it in art museums and design school lecture halls."
New Car Test Drive also reports that the 911's side mirrors are "designed to direct air along the sides of the car toward the automatically deploying rear spoiler, sweeping the side windows" and that this wing "generates an additional 60 pounds of downforce without an increase in drag." In addition to an automatically deploying rear spoiler, the Carrera 4 and 4S also come without model insignia. Targa 4 models add an electrically operated glass roof -- which the Boston Globe says is "a great option for New Englanders who want to have their sports car open in summer sun, but want also to drive them in winter -- without the inevitable flapping and leaking that comes with most convertibles."
