The 2009 Porsche 911 Turbo is the top dog in a pack of snarling competitors.
The 911 Turbo is a performance-tuned variant of the Porsche 911 Carrera, which -- due to its powerful engine options, superb handling dynamics and driver-focused design -- leads the class of super luxury sports cars.
The 911 Turbo builds on the base model's positive attributes by upping its horsepower by 135 ponies and tuning its performance components for a visceral driving experience. Altogether, reviewers agree that the 911 Turbo is a success. Car and Driver writes: "From inside, the snarling boxer six and the whee of the turbos made us giggle. Outside the car, all one hears is air being made to do unholy things. If thunder is God bowling, a 911 Turbo under maximum acceleration sounds like God vacuuming His brownstone."

The Bottom Line
The Porsche 911 Turbo is the full package. It's attractive, powerful, handles exceptionally well and is undoubtedly exclusive. If you're in the market for a high-performance, 2+2-passenger sports car and can swing the $130K price tag, it's definitely the car for you.
Still, be sure to test drive the similarly priced Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG before you sign the dotted line. It's not quicker or a better handler, but packs more horsepower and, to some, it looks hotter.
Few auto critics have test driven the 2009 Porsche 911 Turbo. However, those that have are left enamored by its enhanced performance dynamics -- which isn't surprising, given the base 911 Carrera's good reception.
The 911 Turbo features a 3.6-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine that produces 480 horsepower at 1,950 - 5,000 rpm and 505 pound-feet of torque at 2,100 - 4,000 rpm. Though a six-speed manual transmission is standard, an automatic Tiptronic S transmission with manual shifting options is also available.
According to Porsche, the 911 Turbo has a top speed of 193 mph and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds when equipped with a manual transmission and just 3.4 seconds with the Tiptronic S. The EPA reports that it nets a city/highway fuel economy of 16/23 mpg.
The all-wheel drive 911 Turbo features a variable-steering ratio with hydraulic power-assist. In addition to independent front and rear suspension settings, it also features Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) -- which, through the use of sensors, alters suspension settings to match driving style and road conditions. Porsche Stability Management (PSM), which monitors driver inputs and employs selective braking in order to avoid oversteer and understeer, is also standard. Monobloc aluminum fixed-caliper brakes with an anti-lock braking system come standard. High-performance ceramic brakes are optional.
