The 2009 Saturn Astra has dual-stage frontal air bags with a passenger sensing system, seat-mounted driver and front passenger side-impact air bags and head curtain side air bags.

All Astras have four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes, a tire pressure monitoring system and rain sensing windshield wipers. The Astra XR has StabiliTrak standard, and StabiliTrak is optional for the five-door model. A complimentary one-year Safe & Sound Plan with OnStar service is offered for every trim.
