Saturn Ion Exterior Review

Exterior - 7.8 (Good)

Reviews of the Ion's exterior are generally positive. Kelley Blue Book says that "the Ion's geometric body sculpting stands out in the small car world."

Reviewers such as New Car Test Drive note that the rear doors "are an innovative design that enhances the practicality of this sport coupe."

The Ion 2 and Ion 3 versions are identical, except for larger 16-inch wheels on the Ion 3, while the Red Line has front and rear fascias, side sills and a spoiler. The coupe version has two passenger doors, but also includes rear passenger doors which open from left to right and do not have handles for outside access.

A recent redesign added a large grille to the front. Saturn continues to use composite polymer body panels, of which most reviewers approve. New Car Test Drive says, "The polymer panels can't rust and, because they are slightly resilient, they resist the minor impacts that leave small dents and dings in sheet metal."
