Safety - What the Auto Press Says
New for 2010, all xD's now come standard with vehicle stability control. Other standard safety features include anti-lock brakes with electronic brake distribution and brake assist, traction control and six airbags.
The 2010 Scion xD does extremely well in government crash tests, earning the top score of five stars for both front and rear passenger safety in a side impact collision as well as a four-star rating for driver and passenger safety in a front-end collision. The xD also earns a four-star rollover rating, which means that there is only a 15 percent chance of rollover in a single vehicle collision.
The insurance industry hasn't yet had a chance to test the 2010 Scion xD, but it awarded the 2009 model top scores of "Good" for passenger safety in both side and rear impact collisions. The 2009 model also received a rating of "Acceptable" for passenger safety in front-end impact crashes, which isn't as impressive as the top score but is average for the class.
- "These affordable, fuel-efficient models target younger drivers who could benefit greatly from the proven safety benefits of ESC, which helps a driver keep the vehicle in control and on its intended path during a turn, to avoid sliding or skidding." -- Consumer Reports
