2011 Smart Fortwo
Used Car: 2011 Smart Fortwo Review
Shoppers looking for a small city car should consider the 2011 Smart Fortwo, but you’ll have to compromise on cargo space, performance and reliability.
The 2011 Smart Fortwo is ranked:
The 2011 Smart Fortwo may be one of the smallest cars on the road, but test drivers were still impressed with the amount of space in this two-seater. The Fortwo’s cargo space isn’t as impressive, however.
The base Fortwo has few standard features. Amenities like air conditioning and a stereo were optional when it was new. On the plus side, reviewers thought the gauges on the Fortwo were easy to read and that the controls were easy to use. The Fortwo does have a lot of standard safety features for its size, including four-wheel anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control and traction control.
The Smart Fortwo has a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine that reviewers said is slow and underpowered. They also said that the Fortwo is noisy. Some reviewers thought those compromises are worth it, given how maneuverable the Fortwo is in the city and how good its fuel economy is. However, if you don’t need something quite that small, many other cars in the class outshine the Smart Fortwo.
Other Cars to Consider
The 2011 Honda CR-Z is a two-seat hybrid that tops the Fortwo in many areas. Though it’s a hybrid, reviewers thought the CR-Z’s performance was better, and it also has comparable fuel economy ratings. The CR-Z is small, but the seats are comfortable, and it has a lot more cargo space than the Fortwo. It also has a slightly better reliability score.
The 2011 Volkswagen Jetta TDI, which has a diesel engine, has very good gas mileage. It also has plenty of room for five, a more powerful engine than the Fortwo and a large trunk. Inside, the Jetta TDI has a high-quality interior that comes with more standard features than the Fortwo, including a radio and air conditioning.
