Reviewers say the redesigned 2014 Subaru Forester trumps most competing SUVs with standard all-wheel drive, good fuel economy and a spacious interior. Hi! I am Jim Sharifi, Senior Editor with US News Best Cars. Let's find out if the Subaru Forester is the right SUV for you. The redesigned Forester comes with a 4-cylinder engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. A Continuously Variable Transmission or CVT and a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine are optional. The Forester gets up to an EPA estimated 24 miles per gallon in the city and 32 on the highway which is good for the class.
The Subaru Forester comes in six trims with prices starting at about $22,000. Most test drivers say the standard 4-cylinder engine provides adequate power and that the CVT is responsive while others note that the available turbocharged engine makes the redesigned Forester one of the quickest SUVs in the class. The Forester also earns praise for its controlled ride and accurate steering as well as an available X-Mode Traction Assist system that improves grip off-road. The Forester has more cargo space than most affordable compact SUVs and reviewers like its spacious front and rear seats and quality materials.
Bluetooth and a USB port are standard while available features include a panoramic moonroof and the EyeSight driver assistance system which includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking and lane departure warning.
