Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The 2009 Impreza Wagon has a standard all-wheel-drive system to help avoid accidents. Also, in government crash tests, it received four out of five stars for driver front-impact protection and five out of five stars for passenger front-impact protection. As for side-impact tests, the Impreza Wagon received four out of five stars.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety does not test the Impreza Wagon separately from the sedan version, reasoning that the two share all of the same safety equipment. The sedan is an IIHS "Top Safety Pick" for 2009 because it earned the highest possible scores in all of the Institute's crash tests, and offers no-charge stability control.

- "A quick trip into snow country is all you need to understand the appeal of owning a Subaru. - "In the rain, driving the Sports Wagon is like playing football on a muddy field wearing cleats -- when everyone else is slipping around in sneakers," --The Truth About Cars.
