Exterior - What the Auto Press Says

Despite its modifications, the Impreza is classified as dull-looking when compared to the sportiness of a Mazda3 or the sleekness of a Honda Civic. According to Automobile Magazine, "The 2008 Subaru Impreza may be the least expensive all-wheel-drive sedan on the U.S. market today, but it's also the most obnoxiously styled."

Others make similar observations. About.com says, "Though the Impreza has some nice details, such as the grille and headlights … it's wrapped in anonymous sheet-metal." Edmunds finds, "The slightly goofy but possibly endearing style of the previous Impreza … has been replaced by a sanitized-for-your-protection front end and an uninspiring profile."
