Used Car: 2012 Subaru Impreza Review
Though not the most sprightly car available, reviewers said the 2012 Subaru Impreza has a spacious cabin and stands out with rare-for-the-class all-wheel drive.
The 2012 Subaru Impreza is ranked:
As part of its redesign for 2012, the Impreza sedan and hatchback received a new, 148-horsepower four-cylinder engine, which is mated to either a manual or continuously variable transmission (CVT). Some reviewers said that the engine and CVT combo provide adequate power from a stop, while others found it a bit slow. Still, most agreed that the Impreza delivers composed handling and a comfortable ride. The Impreza achieves up to 27/36 mpg city/highway, which is isn’t class-leading, but still good for the class, especially considering the Impreza’s standard all-wheel drive. The performance-oriented 2012 WRX and WRX STI models carry over unchanged from the 2011 models. The WRX has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 265 horsepower, while the WRX STI produces 305 horsepower.
Reviewers said the Impreza’s remodeled cabin looks clean and classy, with high-quality materials throughout. They also said the seats are comfortable and spacious, and one noted that outward visibility is better than other cars’ in the class. The Impreza comes standard with a four-speaker CD stereo. Available features include leather seats, a six-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, USB and auxiliary inputs, a power sunroof, navigation and automatic climate control. Some reviewers were pleased with the amount of detail given by the navigation system. Others wrote that the touch-screen stereo isn’t as refined as those found in rivals. The hatchback model offers up to 52.4 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded, while the sedan has 12 cubic feet of trunk space. Both figures are competitive for the class.
