Safety - What the Auto Press Says

Subaru is ahead of the curve in the Affordable Small Car class for its standard safety features. In addition to standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, the Impreza comes with six airbags, an Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brake-force Distribution and Brake Assist, Vehicle Dynamic control, and a Traction Control System. On many other cars in this class, these features are either optional or not be available at all.

The 2010 Impreza does very well in government crash tests. It earns the top score of five stars for both driver and passenger protection in a front-end collision as well as for front passenger protection in a side-impact collision. In addition, it earns four stars for rear passenger protection in a side-impact collision. The Impreza earns a four-star rating in rollover testing, which means it has only a 10 percent chance of rollover in a single vehicle crash.

The insurance industry has not yet had a chance to test the 2010 Impreza, but the 2009 model was named a “Top Safety Pick” and received the top score of “Good” in all tests for passenger protection in front-end, side impact and rear crash protection collisions, as well as in roof strength tests.

  • "Visibility to all corners is also largely unobstructed." -- New Car Test Drive
  • "That said, with all-wheel-drive and electronic stability control both standard, the Impreza keeps a better (and safer) grip on the road than most of its rivals, even more so when the weather turns bad." -- About.com
