2008 Subaru Legacy Interior

This interior review was written when the 2008 Subaru Legacy was new.

Despite a tight backseat and only fair cargo space, most are impressed with the five-passenger Subaru Legacy's interior cabin. MarketWatch states, "The inside was pleasant with nicely coordinated colors and very comfortable seats, with materials appropriate for the price."

To Edmunds, "Style and luxury were never within the previous Legacy's grasp, but no apologies need be made for the cockpit, which has one of the best looking designs in this price range."

Seating

According to MSN, the Legacy's "good-sized" front bucket seats are wide enough "to accommodate even non-fitness buffs." Front-cabin dimensions of the 2008 Subaru Legacy provide 37.6 inches of headroom, 44.1 inches of legroom and 54.2 inches of shoulder room.

Though most are pleased with the Legacy's front cabin, its small rear seat remains a major cause of concern. Cars.com says, "Although there are headrests for three in the back seat, only two should attempt to sit back there because the center position -- as is fairly common on many cars these days -- is severely shortchanged. Even the outboard positions are tight on headroom, though there's plenty of knee room." But Edmunds adds, "Kids should fit with no problem, though."

Interior Features

The Subaru Legacy has a long list of standard features. Both MSN and Carz Unlimited write it's nothing short of "generous." Edmunds notes, "The interior materials are excellent, and style, fit and finish are competitive with more expensive European marquees."

The Legacy 2.5i Special Edition comes outfitted with an eight-way power driver's seat and a 60/40-split flat-folding rear seatback. A 100-watt six-speaker audio system with single-disc in-dash CD player (MP3/WMA/XM/SIRIUS Satellite Radio capable) and digital trip computer are standard.

The 2.5i Limited offers four-stage heated front seats and leather upholstery. Dual-zone automatic climate control and a six-disc in-dash CD Changer with SRS Wow 3D audio enhancement are also standard.

Cargo

According to MSN and others, the Legacy "has a roomy trunk with a low, wide opening," with a total of 11.4 cubic feet in the trunk. Additional space can be found throughout the Legacy's interior cabin as standard features include a retractable-lid center console, glovebox, numerous concealed storage compartments, dual grocery bag hooks and even four cupholders.
