Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The federal government gives the 2010 Tribeca top five-star scores for all seating positions in both frontal and side impact crash tests. It receives a four-star rollover score, which is good for an SUV and means it has only a 16 percent chance of rollover in a single vehicle crash.
The insurance industry gives the Journey top scores of "Good" in front, side, rear crash protection and roof strength tests. Its good performance plus standard electronic stability control earn it a "Top Safety Pick" designation.
The 2009 Tribeca was one of the insurance industry’s "Top Safety Picks" and received top scores of “Good” in frontal offset, side impact, rear crash protection as well as roof strength tests. It’s one of very few SUVs to receive top scores in every single one of these tests.
In addition to its standard all-wheel drive, the Tribeca’s standard safety equipment includes Vehicle Dynamic Control, a Traction Control System, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, side-curtain airbags protecting front and rear outboard occupants and front-seat-mounted front side-impact airbags. After complaints about rearward visibility in the 2007 Tribeca, Subaru added larger side mirrors and reshaped side windows in the rear -- but some reviewers continue to complain about visibility issues. To remedy that, the Touring model comes standard with a rearview camera.
- "Rear vision. Still poor. Shouldn't be, Subie says. Larger way-back side windows and bigger outside mirrors should have taken care of that." -- USA Today
- "While fluffy creature comforts might be lacking, the Tribeca scores bonus points on safety. Nobody doubts any Subaru's sturdy construction -- it's kind of a no-brainer. These things are built like tanks." -- Mother Proof
