Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The 2008 Toyota Avalon is seen as a large, safe car, with a number of standard safety features on each trim level and outstanding crash test scores. The Detroit News says that the Avalon "trumps the competitors when it comes to safety features."
The 2008 Toyota Avalon earned five stars for driver protection in front impact crashes and five stars for front passenger protection. In side impact crashes, the Avalon earned five stars for front seat occupant protection and five stars for backseat occupant protection. While the 2008 Toyota Avalon is not yet tested, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2007 a high rating of "Good" for both front and side crash test results.
Accident Avoidance
All 2008 Toyota Avalon trim levels come standard with four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock brake system (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution. All 2008 Avalon trim levels can be equipped with the optional Vehicle Stability Control with Traction Control and Brake Assist.
Crash Protection
The 2008 Avalons come standard with driver and front passenger air bags with Toyota's Advanced Airbag System, front and rear side curtain air bags, driver's knee air bags and three-point seat belts, a Child Restraint System (CRS) and adjustable headrests for various seating positions. The Avalon also has front and rear crumple zones, side-impact door beams and an energy-absorbing collapsible steering column.
